Low-Noise, Low-Dropout Regulator

Diodes Incorporated announced the launch of the AP7372 low-noise, low-dropout (LDO) regulator. It has up to 90dB Power Supply Ripple Rejection (PSRR) across a wide frequency range, plus an extremely low output noise, which stands only at 8μVrms.

The LDO regulator supports a maximum output current of 200mA and features an ultra-low dropout voltage of just 120mV, ensuring efficient power delivery even under tight voltage margins.

It comes in five fixed voltage options—1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V, and 5.0V, as well as an adjustable version capable of delivering output down to 1.2V. For added precision, a dedicated resistor-divider pin allows fine-tuning of the fixed output voltages to meet exact system requirements.

It has an input voltage range from 2.7V to 20V and can be powered from common bus standards such as 12V and 5V or battery voltage (VBAT) down to a single Li-Ion cell.

There is also a thermal protection current limiter that protects against short-circuit and overcurrent. A small 2.2μF ceramic output capacitor is installed to ensure stability. The circuit becomes complete with just the input capacitor and soft-start capacitor.

The product is set to give optimistic hopes to the designers to mitigate the negative impacts of input source noise. The regulator targets to meet the stringent output ripple and noise targets. It has an adjustable soft-start time and can be easily set using an external capacitor. This feature lets designers optimize the power-rail ramp up to mitigate inrush currents and produce a consistent and stable supply.

It incorporates an enable pin that allows for system-level control, including power-up sequencing and energy-saving shutdown when the regulator is not in use.

It draws just 3µA in shutdown mode and has a low quiescent current of 66μA, hence low overall power consumption of the system.

The product can see its applications within test and measurement, communication, industrial automation, and medical equipment sectors.

The product measures 1.2mm x 1.0mm U-WLB1012-6 (Type A1) with a ball-grid array package that enables a compact circuit footprint for high power density.

The product is designed for powering precision components such as Data Converters (ADCs, DACs), Voltage-Controlled Oscillators (VCOs), and Phase-Locked Loops (PLLs).
