Designed for applications from data centers to EV charging, these devices promise future-proof security, tighter control loops, and higher efficiency as industries prepare for quantum-era threats.

Industrial Microcontrollers Enter Post-Quantum Security Era

Infineon Technologies AG has introduced its new PSOC Control C3 Performance Line microcontrollers (MCUs), bringing Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) compliance to industrial systems. The new MCUs meet the requirements of the Commercial National Security Algorithm (CNSA) Suite 2.0 for firmware protection while also supporting PSA (Platform Security Architecture) Level 3. With these dual certifications, Infineon is preparing industries for a secure transition into the quantum era.

The family is designed to protect critical systems from future quantum-based cyberattacks. It integrates Leighton-Micali Hash-Based Signatures (LMS) for efficient post-quantum firmware verification and accelerates performance through SHA-2 hardware acceleration. To simplify adoption, the company also enables hybrid signing, allowing developers to combine ECC with PQC algorithms during the migration phase.

Beyond security, the new MCUs offer industry-leading real-time control features for applications such as motor control and power conversion. Proprietary autonomous hardware accelerators, coupled with high-resolution analog peripherals, enable operation at high switching frequencies and tighter control loops. This results in improved accuracy and efficiency, making the MCUs particularly suited for demanding sectors including data centers, telecommunications, solar energy, and electric vehicle charging.

For developers, the family delivers several advantages.

The key features are:

  • Future-proof security with CNSA 2.0 compliance, including LMS and SHA-512.
  • Flexibility through hybrid ECC + PQC firmware signing.
  • Simplified integration using ModusToolbox Power Suite and Motor Suite.
  • Scalability with dedicated variants for:Power Conversion (PSC3P8 / PSC3P7) and Motor Control (PSC3M8 / PSC3M7)
  • Multiple package options available, supporting up to 100 pins.

Engineering samples of the PSOC Control C3 PQC-compliant MCUs will be available in late 2025, with volume production expected in 2026. By combining cutting-edge quantum-resistant security with best-in-class industrial performance, Infineon is giving manufacturers the tools to both secure and optimize their next-generation systems.

“With the PSOC Control C3 family, we are setting a new security standard in industrial microcontrollers,” said Steve Tateosian, SVP and General Manager of IoT, Consumer and Industrial MCUs at Infineon.
