Engineered for 5G, automotive, and telecom applications, new 3dB 90° hybrid couplers deliver high-frequency performance in a miniature footprint—enabling smarter, smaller, and more efficient RF designs.

KYOCERA AVX has launched a new line of integrated thin film (ITF) hybrid couplers, engineered to meet the demanding performance and size requirements of emerging high-frequency wireless systems. The new DB0402 3dB, 90° hybrid couplers leverage advanced multilayer thin-film technology to deliver best-in-class performance in the 3,000–4,100MHz frequency range. These four-port directional couplers split signals into two equal-amplitude outputs, phase-shifted by 90°, with minimal insertion loss and superior amplitude and phase balance.
The key features are:
- Ultra-miniature size: just 0.040” x 0.023” x 0.014”
- High power handling: up to 1W continuous
- Low insertion loss: as low as -0.5dB
- High signal isolation for clean performance
- Wide operating temperature range: -40°C to +85°C
The robust design ensures reliable performance even in harsh environments, while the ultra-miniature size helps save valuable board space, making it an ideal choice for compact RF layouts. The design also ensures low parasitics, and excellent repeatability across production batches. They also support multiple soldering methods and are packaged on tape and reel for easy integration into automated assembly lines. Full RoHS and IATF compliance further enhance their suitability for high-reliability environments.
Designed to accelerate the performance of high-frequency wireless technologies, these hybrid couplers are optimized for a wide array of RF applications, including 4G/5G/6G LTE infrastructure, MIMO antenna systems, GPS, satellite TV, RF balanced amplifiers, signal distribution, wireless LANs, vehicle tracking, and heavy-duty radios. Their high linearity and effective heat dissipation make them ideal for mission-critical industrial, automotive, telecom, and telemetry solutions where signal integrity and space efficiency are paramount.
“Hybrid couplers like these are crucial enablers of modern wireless networks,” said Mohammed Abu-Naim, RF Product Manager, KYOCERA AVX – North America. “As 5G and SATCOM technologies evolve, so must the components behind them. Our new couplers offer RF engineers the reliability, performance, and compactness needed for the next generation of wireless innovation.”
